Craps can be a mysterious game for the novice. First, realize that Craps is a game of rounds. Occasionally the outcome of a round will be decided on the Come out roll. The Come Out roll is the first roll in a round. Pay special attention when a 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12 is rolled on the Come out roll, because it ends a round. A Point is when any other overall number is rolled (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10).
When opening a round, the first roll of the dice in a betting round is always called the Come Out roll. The come out roll is made when the previous shooter does not succeed in making a winning roll, in other words, they fail to make either the Point or seven out.
All of the players near the Craps table all get a chance to shoot (or throw) the two dice. If you decide it's not in your best interest to throw the dice, then you can bet on the thrower. Many different types of bets can be made on the action table.
Now for further explanation, the dice are rolled across the craps table layout. The layout is divided into three separate areas - 2 side areas that are separated by a center one. Each side area is the mirror image of the other side and contains the following: Odds bet, Place bets, Field bets, Come and Don't Come bets and Pass and Don't Pass line bets,. The middle area contains the Proposition bets and is shared by the two side areas.
Winning/losing plays
What are the rules for Pass Bets to win? When the roll result is 7 or 11, however pass bets lose when the come out roll is 2, 3, or 12.
When do Don't bets win or lose? Don't bets win when the "come out" roll is a 2 or 3. Don't Bets lose when the "come out" roll is a 7 or 11.
When do "Don't bets' tie? Don't Bets are called a tie once the come out roll is twelve. In some casinos a tie is considered a 2, it helps that the 'Bar' roll on the layout shows which roll is treated as a tie.
Kinds of bets at Craps
Pass Line Bet - You can win at Craps if the initial roll is a natural (7, 11) and you may lose at Craps if it is craps (2, 3, 12).
Odds on Pass Line Bet - After you rolled a point you can make an extra bet by taking odds. There is a assortment of payoffs for every point.
Come Bet The same rules apply as the Pass Line bet. The only discrepancy is in the fact that you can make this bet only after the point on the pass line was decided.
Odds on Come Bet - The same as the Odds on Pass Line bet, with the only difference that you can take odds on the Come Bet, and you cannot on the Pass Line bet.
Don't Pass Line Bet - An upturned Pass Line bet is a Don't Pass Line Bet. If the first roll of a dice is a 2 or a 3 you triumph and if it is a natural (7, 11) you are fail.
Don't Come Bet - The exact opposite of the Come Bet. Following the come point is accepted you win if a 2 or 3 is rolled, and you lose with 7 or 11.
Place Bets - This bet works after the point has been decided. Place your bet on a dice roll of 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. For example, 8 pays out at 7:6. You can cancel the bet anytime you want.
Field Bets - These bets are used only for a single die (one roll of two dice) roll only. If a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12 is rolled then you are the winner. A 5, 6, 7 or 8, you lose. Big Six, Big Eight Bets - Bets can be laid on any roll of dice these bets. You win if a 6 or 8 come out before a 7 is rolled. When it is a 'Big Six' and 'Big Eight', they are even bets and are paid at 1:1.
